January 19, 2004

Well, isn't life funny? After a lovely morning of school and housework with my kiddos, I sat down to go through some things in the bedroom. This week is the Master Bedroom Zone on FLYlady and so I was picking up things that probably should go other places than our nightstands, etc. Suddenly I noticed that I'd had several contractions. I sat down with my water bottle and began to count them.

Within an hour, I'd had six contractions and called the Dr. By 3 p.m. I was in the hospital with Dominic and our Tia had come to stay with the kids. I was there for over four hours and almost didn't get to come home.

When I got to the hospital the contractions were 3-4 min. apart. They started IV fluids (Lactated Ringers for all the nurses) and did all of the necessary inspections and tests. The fetal fibronectin was negative, as were all of the others. But I am 1 cm dilated and 60% effaced. They gave me a subq shot of Terbutaline 2.5 mg. After an hour the contractions came back and I had to have another. They were telling me I might have to stay and get Mag. (which is really yucky and involves several days in the hospital) but thankfully I responded well to the second dose of Terbutaline and the contrations spaced out to about 10 minutes apart and they were much milder.

I was sent home with oral Terbutaline which is to be taken every four hours around the clock. And I'm on strict bedrest until at least Wednesday when I can see my OB again and get checked out. I was on the same medication with Piper and did very well. So, I'm hoping it will work out okay with this one.

They were very glad I came in. I did the right thing. I have the best husband, who took very good care of me at the hospital. He kept making me laugh! I told him he had to stop as it kept messing up the monitoring! But he's brought me home and cleaned the kitchen and is insisting I come to bed. Good husband! Tomorrow we'll do school from the couch and Reagan has been instructed to make sure that I drink plenty of water and don't have to ask him anything twice. All I care about is that baby and I are fine. I have absolutely no reason to complain.

I guess all of that nesting had a reason. At least my house is clean and that allows me to relax to a greater extent. I'm still not sure how I'm going to do bedrest with 2 kids, but I'll put all of my energy into keeping us all safe.

I kept saying that if I didn't know better, I'd think I was going to go into labor. Apparently, I was right. I guess I'm smarter than I think. Or maybe just more in tune with my body than I thought.
