Our Shooting Star

Sarah Anne Basso was stillborn at 2:25 pm on February 25th, 2005. She weighed 15.9 ounces and was 11 inches long. Her fingers were long and delicate with perfect fingernails. She had great big feet like her sisters'. Her mouth was a tiny cupid's bow. She died because of a severe brain anomaly made worse by several other brain abnormalities, and was most likely associated with a chromosomal abnormality.

We took pictures of her. We held her. We read to her. We sang to her. And we cried tears I thought would never end. The nurse said stillborn babies are like shooting stars, you see them for a moment and then they're gone. She was even more lovely, our little shooting star.

We were cared for by an amazing staff who tended to Sarah's and our needs, never rushing us.

The loss of a child can never be described in words. But I know that in the arms of the Saviour she is whole and she is well.

Thank you to all who have prayed for us, cried with us, and hoped for us. Sadly, she couldn't hold on.
