This is one of the best books I've ever read regarding natural birth. Written by a woman who became a midwife out of necessity, when the women of their group began giving birth, it is full of wisdom, heart, and practical advice.

As a first-time mom it gave me confidence in my body. It also taught me that attitude is everything. Even though my birth was not on a farm, and required more interventions than the women in the book, I was able to maintain a great outlook and communicate in positive ways. Thus, my birth experience was still wonderful.

This book was definitely written in the 70s. Contractions are referred to as "rushes" and couples are encouraged to get "tantric" to get the baby out. But, language aside, it's still great advice. Full of birth stories, photographs, and even a section for dads, I think this book is one that every woman should read at least once.
