Piper has discovered the Discover Kids magazines that Reagan has been getting for the last 2 years or so. Most recently she's become fascinated by the one on Tropical Rainforests.
So, today we went to the Minnesota zoo with a friend and her kids and took a trip down the tropics trail to see how many animals she could recognize. I took the opportunity to bring up mammals and what distinguishes them. We found ourselves asking questions about each animal and determining whether or not they were mammals. It was wonderful. After that, we walked down the Minnesota trail and found mammals that are native to our state.
After a wonderful lunch with our friends we came home, had a reading lesson, and read through the Rainforest magazine. I know some of the words and concepts were over her head, but some of it she got and it was so much fun to watch.
