Getting On My Nerves

I'm fascinated by blog explosion (see my link in the left gutter). Blog explosion is a site where for every two blogs you go and read (for at least 30 seconds), one person will be sent to read your blog, thus increasing your readership. I love finding people who both agree and disagree with me. Especially when their thoughts are well presented and fair. That said, there are a few things that have really been bothering me.

  1. Yes, I am a Christian.  Specifically, I am a Roman Catholic. I love my faith and am devoted to the study of it, as some of the most learned and brilliant men our earth has ever produced, have been (not that I'm comparing myself, I'm not). I resent the implication that because I am a Christian, I am lacking in intellectual ability, or intellectual honesty. There is more to the faith than bible thumpers, but I'd still rather spend time with an honest bible thumper than a pompous intellectual bigot. Christian or not. If you don't believe in God, fine. But you'll have to find a better way of explaining away my faith than I'm stupid, I'm insecure, or I need a crutch.

  2. I am a conservative. Not all conservatives are rich oil men from Texas. Just as I'm sure not all liberals are long haired hippie communists. But I tire of the insinuation that I'm anything less than entitled to my opinion, simply because it is different.

  3. I am pro-life. I'm sick of reading about pro-lifers as emotionally driven Jesus freaks with no logic behind their position. I tend to think that at least my position is consistent, and has roots in science and genetics. You may not agree, but for heaven's sake, lose the over-generalizations.

  4. Being educated, or liberal, or atheist, does not make you a genius. You may be a genius, but not for any of those reasons. Nor does being uneducated, conservative, or Christian make you an imbecile. Really, if you're such a genius, I think you can do better.

In conclusion I will leave you with the following (my favorite part) of something I found here. I don't agree with everything written, so I'm only sharing my favorite part. Sometimes I think we Americans need to grow the heck up!

We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused
by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights.”

ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone – not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

The previous was simply MY opinion, and not necessarily the opinion of ANYONE else. That's why it's MY blog.

Thank you.
