I am SO glad to be home! My parents are wonderful people, and their home will always be mine also, but I'm so glad to come back to the space over which I am in charge. Two weeks was a long time to be away.
The flight out was eventful, full of Piper vomiting on a passenger, and all the kids (along with myself) coming down with nasty colds. Had my best-friend's dad not been dying, I don't think we would have gone at all.
By the time I arrived in California, Robert Sponheim was gone. He was one of the finest men I have ever had the privilege to know. And I think I will miss him always.
The next day my neighbor, Mike, a truly gentle soul was killed in an accident. He was 29 years old. I couldn't go to his funeral. I was emotionally tapped out.
I spent the rest of my time grieving, visiting, connecting with old friends, and trying to get back home. I lead a double life now. A California life and a Minnesota life. It was as if I just picked up my California life, but my Minnesota life was suspended in the process.
I think I'm still exhausted from it all. Especially the grief. Especially since all grief just brings Sarah right back. I miss her so much.
